Throughout the 70s and 80s, Foreigner was universally hailed as one of the most popular rock acts in the world, racking up scores of smash hits, multi-platinum albums, and sold out concert tours. Foreigner's thrilling mix of blustery blues and impeccably crafted pop continues to captivate generation after generation of music fans, having sold more than 70 million albums.
No band parlayed the stadium sound in the 1970s with such dependable know-how as Foreigner and the key to the band's success has been main man Mick Jones. A battle-scarred, hit-savvy veteran who played with the artful organ-rock outfit Spooky Tooth before founding platinum-selling Foreigner, Jones is not only a master of the hook but also a guitarist of unerring efficiency.
Foreigner's catalogue of car-stereo hits is nearly unrivaled: "Feels Like the First Time," "Cold as Ice" (Foreigner); "Hot Blooded" (Double Vision); "Dirty White Boy" (Head Games); "Waiting for a Girl Like You" (4). From 1977 to 1984 Foreigner released 6 Top 10 albums, and the canny Jones kept the sound fresh by working with different producers on each album and supplying the perfect surprising flourish for each hit. The band's high point came with Agent Provocateur's "I Want to Know What Love Is" which was backed by a gospel choir. Inside Information also displayed Jones' growth as a vocalist, and the record's synth-work saw Foreigner keeping pace with the times. Unusual Heat marked a return to Foreigner's reliable, full-out rocking standard. A complete comeback in terms of original vision didn't take place until 1995's Mr. Moonlight, which was considered solid rock. Records was the group's first greatest-hits collection and several more were released throughout the 1990s.
Today, some 30 years later, Foreigner is an ensemble of talented musicians each adding their individual credentials to the mix to make the band stronger and more powerful than ever. Their new album No End in Sight: The Very Best of Foreigner celebrates their body of work with new versions of their hits as well as some new tunes.
This morning renowned rockers Mick Jones and Kelly Hansen tell all – from their beginnings on the road to becoming stars and selling out arenas around the world to what their music means to them today. Plus, Foreigner performs their mega hits "Cold as Ice", "Double Vision", "Urgent", "Waiting for a Girl Like You" and their new song "Too Late". Don't miss it!
